Does furniture have to be treated for bugs

When buying furniture does it have to be treated for bugs and how do you know if this has been done? Is there a product you can buy to put on the furniture to treat it yourself and do you think this will work?

From what I understand, most woods used (locally) are already termite resistant and most products are already treated for bugs. If you have something made, I would ask they treat it. Everyone, please chime in if my info is incorrect. Bag or store soft goods when you leave.
