Late march in manitoba and its still cold, these houses are looking better and better. Ooooh brrrr, I know. We had 4" yesterday morning. Very late for so much around here. The mountains received over a foot in 24 hours. Locogringo had some threads and some great links on rental cars. I think ours was $550 for two weeks. We've had good luck with Thrify. It's right at the airport.

| Clay, I rented with Cancun rent a car. Also known as International, and at least 1 other name as well. It DID come with insurance. I booked online - all it asked me was how I would be paying. I got a confirmation 1 day before I left. All very professional I thought. A guy also met me right at the airport with a sign w/my name on it. 5 minute drive to the rental shop. I brought down my "mexico" credit card - it only has a $500 limit. The agency was trying to 'reserve' $550 on it which wasn't working. I told him to try $450 which was fine. THEN he tried to put the BALANCE ($252) on the card... Well needless to say that didn't work... They drove me to the ATM and I withdrew the 2500 pesos and was on my way. Returning the car was simple too, just make sure you spend the time WHEN PICKING UP THE CAR, to go over it really well with the agent. Mark EVERYTHING down that you see. I had no problems, but the fellows did seem to have a lengthy discussion in Spanish about some damage that had already been there. I was assertive even before he could even try to suggest that I was responsibel. Ok... I'm rambling now. Yup - $252 is cheap, and included insurance. Nolan | |

| Oh yeah. Most of the Locogringo posts I've read recommend EITHER Cancun / INternational rent a car, or EASYWAY rentacar. | |

| I generally take a private transfer to Akumal and then rent a car there from Carrib. rent a car which I have reserved on-line.
Yes, this an expensive way to go, however I do not want to drive when I am tired from a flight and would rather be chatting it up with a driver with a cold beer in my hand.
I have also rented from Hertz in Tulum.

| I could not access International car rental, it kept saying bandwidth exceeded. In all my years of going to Cancun, I have NEVER seen car rental with insurance for under 15.00 dollars a day. To me, this looks impossible. was this recently? Are you sure that included insurance?? If so, what type? Liability, collision or both. What deductable? When I rent, I always go with Easyway, 12 to 15 dollars a day for the car, plus liability. I then use my Visa card free insurance for the collision, 0 deductable. I have a feeling they told you it had insurance, but it did not. | |

Dave- Check that Visa policy carefully......there are some countries not covered and I think MX is one of them. I could be wrong, but better safe than sorry, IMHO! Cheers- Mags

| I always check with my CC company first. My brother-in-law rented the car on our last trip, and it was expensive. He said some rental companies would not accept CC coverage - even if it was available. He didn't go with a local company. We rented from a major company - don't remember which one. I'll need to do some checking into this. Thanks for all the input!! | |

| HI! Just so everyone knows--we used Cancun Rentacar off airport in Cancun last trip. When we showed up to drop the car off - the place was locked up - noone there at 9 am. We waited for 1 1/2 hours (this included several calls to their number and promises someone was coming.) We finally had to pay another rental car company to take us to the airport in our rental car so we would not miss our flight!! Then got billed by Cancun Rentalcar for being short on gas!
NEVER use them. It was a bad deal....
Any other suggestions for a good rental car deal with someone who will actually be on-site? Mimi

| Hey we just got back on June 10 - a lot of the homes are really starting to take shape now with lots of colors and additions. It soooo exciting. We rented a car from Easyway car rental and they were great and cheap too. $134.00 for 10 days plus liability insurance and tax (my Visa only covers basic insurance and the liability is manditory in Mexico). Total cost for everything for 10 days was just under $275.00. The biggest reason for picking this company is that it is one of the few that let you take the car accross the border to Belize, but when I compared it on Orbitz, it was the cheapest too. The company was wonderful - only in Mexico do you get offered a beer when you pick up your car !!! The guy only took a quick look at the car when we returned it and there were no surprises. The car was a little older and had a few bumps and bruises but the price was right. | |

| We just returned a few days ago and we used easyway. This was our first time renting a car and boy did they make it easy. We waited a few minutes at the airport, because we were early and they loaded us up, took us to their office. I don't think it took more than 1/2 from the time they got us at the airport and the time we pulled out of the lot. It was cheap, we payed cash and got a discount, mentioned Locogringo and got another discount. The return was just as easy. We plan to use them again in August. | |
